You have two easy options to start:

1. Free 15-Minute Consultation
Each therapists offers a warm, no-pressure introduction to our therapy approach and collaborative services. We’ll also answer any questions you have so you can feel confident about next steps.

2. Book a Full Appointment
If you’re ready to begin therapy right away, you can skip the consultation and schedule your full session at a time that works for you. For parents, we start with a parental consultation before meeting your child/teen. For couples, we generally start by meeting each spouse separately.

No referral is needed.

  Please walk in and have a seat in the waiting area. There is no receptionist — your therapist will meet you in the waiting room (Suite 213) at your scheduled appointment time.

  Look for the office with “CTSACT” on the door. Simply walk in and have a seat. There is no receptionist — your therapist will find you in the waiting room at your appointment time.

Virtual Sessions

• Virtual appointments are available for residents of Ontario (ON), Quebec (QC), Nova Scotia (NS), New Brunswick (NB), and Prince Edward Island (PEI).

You will receive a secure meeting link via Jane approximately 30 minutes before your session. Jane is our practice management and booking system, specifically designed for Canadian healthcare practitioners to make scheduling and appointments seamless and secure.

Session lengths vary by type. Individual counselling is typically scheduled for 50 or 80 minutes, but we can also book individual, family, or couples counselling sessions up to 2 hours if needed.

The number of therapy sessions you may need depends on your situation and the type of therapy you choose. Once I have a good understanding of your history, needs, and goals, we’ll work together to discuss a treatment plan and how many sessions may be helpful for you.

Often, when you first begin therapy, I’ll recommend meeting weekly or biweekly to establish momentum. As you make progress, we may transition to less frequent sessions, such as monthly, based on your needs and goals.

Different approaches can also involve different timeframes. For example:

• Short-term, goal-focused therapies like Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) or Brief Solution-Focused Therapy may typically involve several sessions over a defined period to build skills and address specific concerns.

• Longer-term work, especially when exploring deeper patterns or complex trauma, may require more sessions over a longer period.

• For children, depending on their needs and progress, therapeutic work often unfolds over a series of sessions that supports development and changing patterns over time.

We’ll also take your financial situation and insurance coverage into account so that your plan fits your overall needs and ability to attend sessions.

In a trauma-informed practice, your safety, choice, and pace are always respected. We recognize that talking about traumatic experiences can feel overwhelming or triggering, and there is no pressure to discuss your trauma directly unless and until you feel ready. Clients always have the choice of how much to share and when to share it. This approach aligns with core trauma-informed principles of empowerment, voice, and choice, which support your control and wellbeing throughout the therapeutic process.

We are trained in therapeutic approaches that support both talking about trauma aloud and working with trauma without verbal disclosure, depending on what feels safest and most helpful for you — for both adults and children. In all cases, therapy is collaborative and paced according to your comfort and needs, prioritizing your sense of safety and control.

Jane (scheduling platform) and Heidi (transcription and dictation) operate in strict accordance with PIPEDA and PHIPA legislation.

When you complete your intake form and in the course of therapy, any information collected is only used by your therapist, or their supervisor, for the purpose of providing care.

Therapy can begin to have an effect from the very first session. Improvement can continue over a few sessions, a few months, or a few years. You decide how deep you want to explore and how extensive the changes are that you want to make. You choose the pace. Significant change may take from 3-6 months up to 1-2 years.

At present, we work with clients 3 years of age and older for in-person therapy.

For virtual therapy, we only accept children 7 years of age or older, unless discussed otherwise with the parent(s) / guardian(s).

Yes, we offer evening and weekend appointments in person and virtual. Check the online scheduling system (known as “Jane”).

We believe that parents are an important part of their children’s wellbeing. For children under the age of 12, active parental involvement is expected and encouraged in the therapeutic process. This may mean you attend part of a session and/or have separate parental consultations with the therapist.

The therapist will reach out to involve and engage caregivers as necessary to support the child’s progress.

If your child is 12 years or older, they have the more autonomy to decide whether they would like parental involvement in their therapy sessions. In some cases, they may be deemed a mature minor, which prohibits parental involvement.
