Choosing the right therapist
Not sure which therapist is the right fit for you? We understand that finding the right person to work with can feel overwhelming, and we’re here to help.
Our friendly admin team can guide you in matching with a therapist who aligns with your needs and goals.
Still unsure? Our practice owner is happy to chat with you, or we can schedule a free 15-minute call with a therapist so you can ask questions and get a feel for the process—no commitment required. During this call, you might ask about the therapist’s approach, areas of expertise, experience with challenges similar to yours, and how they like to work with clients. This conversation can help you feel confident that the therapist you choose is the best fit for you.
We’re here to make this first step as comfortable, supportive, and empowering as possible. Try some of these questions if you are not sure what to ask:
About connection and style:
How would you describe your approach to working with someone like me?
What do you find most helpful when supporting clients through challenges like mine?
How do you like to work with people—more structured, or flexible and exploratory?
About experience and perspective:
Have you worked with people navigating situations similar to mine? What did that work look like?
How do you usually help clients notice progress or change?
About collaboration and fit:
How do you like to build a partnership with your clients?
How can I know if we’re a good fit for each other?
What do you hope clients take away from working with you?
What happens at the first therapy session?

Therapy often begins with a desire to change something—whether within yourself, a relationship, or your life circumstances. How you understand your story plays an important role in shaping the therapeutic approach that will best support you.
At our office, you can pour yourself a warm cup of tea or coffee, kick off your shoes, and get cozy under a blanket on a comfortable couch. We’ve created a space that feels more like home than a clinical office—because feeling comfortable and at ease is an important part of your therapy experience.
In your first session, we will focus on building a strong therapeutic relationship while gathering helpful background information. This time is also about getting to know you and how you make sense of your experiences and the world around you. Together, this foundation helps guide the direction of therapy and allows us to create a path that feels meaningful, collaborative, and aligned with your goals.
To help you prepare, you may want to reflect on the following questions before your first session:
What concerns or challenges brought you to therapy, and what is currently happening with them?
When did these concerns begin, and how have they changed over time?
What other factors may be influencing these challenges?
What is currently going well in your life, and what would life look like without these difficulties?
What background information would help your therapist understand you as a whole person?
What are your goals for therapy?

Types of Therapy
Integrative therapy means we learn about how you make changes in your life, identify what you value, understand your perspectives and culture, and find therapeutic modalities that work best for your unique needs.
Every session comes from a trauma-informed, solution-focused, and strength-based approach. This occurs within a culturally inclusive and social justice framework. All people are welcome to this practice.
Here are some types of therapies that may interest you. You do not need to know which ones you like before you attend therapy. It’s here to help, only if you want.
